This Year's Model Updates:

Only minor changes are made to Chevrolet's bread-and-butter Silverado pickup for 2002. Some options packages have been revamped for easier ordering and all extended-cab models now come standard with a four-speed automatic transmission, with the manual no longer available.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended cab models, strong V8 engines, available composite bed, disc brakes at all four corners, optional traction control.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

  • As good as it gets !!!!!!!!!! - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I just traded in my cadillac for a Z71 4WD 1500 LT. Wow what a truck! I test drove the ford lariat, dodge, and the Tundra, essentially the chevy kicks thier butts hands down. I drove it from SF to Reno and back. Now I know what it means to feel the force. This truck has loads of power, it is easy to drive, and rides essentially like a cadillac. It rides solid like my porsche which I am thinking of selling so I can buy another chevy for myself since my wife will not let me drive it, it is her truck now.

  • Good work truck - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This is a good work truck with fuel economy as stated on the dealer invoice. The 4800 engine has very good acceleration for a truck. The transmission shifts smooth and the transmission tow / haul selection mode is a good feature. The interior has cab noise that seems a little loud. Ride and handling is good loaded or unloaded. First complaint is the cab mounting bolts to the frame were loose and the dealer had to re-torque them. Second complaint is the anti lock brakes activate at speeds below five mph and the brakes then do not work at all. There is now a recall for this problem as stated by the NHTSA.

  • Superior to others - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Always wanted a black Chevy 4x4, finally got it. I love this truck. It rides great, pulls everything I ask it to, and has a ton of room. The Chevy engines are superior to the Ford and Dodge, and Toyota isnt even an option. Ive got 68,000 miles and have never put a dime into it, other than routine maintenance.

  • best truck anyone could own - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have driven many truck ford dodge and Nissan but this truck is always going to be number one in my book all my other trucks kept breaking down after one haul of hay or one pull of my horse trailer it just quit on me I put more in my other trucks then this one ford and dodge dont run very well Im just saying that my point of view this is the best truck ever and when I go mudding in this truck it doesnt struggle like my old ones did.

  • So Far So Good - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Bought this vehicle in January and have loged on about 15,000 miles. I love this truck. I have the 5.3 V8 and towed my Jet Ski to laughlin this summer several times and got over 400 miles on a tank of fuel while towing! Gas mileage aint so good in town(most likely due to the flowmaster exhaust and K&N FIPK). Runs really strong and sounds good with the addition of a flowmaster exhaust and K&N. The interior seems to be wearing well in fact it shows very little wear at all. The plastics used for the dash and in the armrest are all hard and cheap feeling. The rest of the materials seem to be of an acceptable quality.

  • Nice Truck! - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought my truck back in Sep 07 with 46,000 miles. I put over 1,000 miles on it the first 2 days I had it. I have the 4.8L V8 and it gets decent fuel efficency for a truck. I recently purchased a 05 Titan SE that blows this Silverado away with torque and power. I still think the Chevy is more comfortable and a nicer ride on trips, but lacks engine power and torque compared to a Titan.

Bought this truck new in 3-02. Its had power windows replaced and idles a little rough for about two minutes on mornings when the temp is below 35-- doesnt happen too often in Baton Rouge. It now has 100,000 miles on it and was given to my 16 year old son in 5-08. Im frankly surprised at how reliable its been. Mechanics have told me that 200,000 miles of service is attainable with no major engine or tranny work on Chevy and Ford pickups. Cant explain this, but mpg improved from 13.5 city when new to 16.5 today.
